POST SECONDARY PROGRAM

Counselling Service

A vital aspect of continous progress at the post secondary level depends on support, encouragement, counselling, and guidance to Moose Cree First Nation students. The Post Secondary Counsellor is available around the clock to accommodate students attending institutions abroad. A close working relationship is also established with receiving counsellors at colleges and universities in which Moose Cree First Nation students are enrolled. (Click here - Link Page to Colleges and Universties)

Orientation workshops are given annually to provide new students and continuing students updates on procedures and policy ammendments.  Workshops also include adapting to city culture, budgeting, and the responsibility of becoming role models for the community.

An annual graduate appreciation dinner is given in honour of each graduate for the past academic year.

Financial Assistance:

Besides Tuition and books, Living Allowances are available for eligible part-time and full-time students to cover daily living expenditures such as, food, rent, utilities, travel, etc.  All students must meet eligiblity requirements.

Students must first apply to a recognized college or university of choice.  Then each student must complete an Educational Assistance Form (EA Form).  These forms are available at the Moose Cree Education Authority.  It is important that all pertinent information outlined in the EA form be attached, such as letters of support, acceptance letters, and transcripts.  ANY INCOMPLETE E.A. FORMS WILL NOT BE PROCESSED.   Student applications are then routed to the Selection Review Committee to begin the selection process. Students who are denied funding, may appeal within 10 days of the notice of denial. Appeals are then processed by the Appeals Committee where a decision made is final.

Due to limited funding each year not all applicants will be successful, each application is catagorized as outlined in the Post Secondary Policy. It is recommended that a contingency plan for alternative funding be sought, such as OSAP, should your application be denied.

NEW DEADLINE DATES FOR SUBMITTING E.A. FORMS:

MAY 1st of each year
if you are planning to start Fall Semester
or NOVEMBER 30th of each year, if you are planning to start Winter Semester
